Proceeding contribution from Maria Miller (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 5 January 2010. It occurred during Adjournment debate on Independent Safeguarding Authority.

Independent Safeguarding Authority

I return to the intervention by my hon. Friend the Member for Yeovil (Mr. Laws) If the Minister finds it difficult to give an answer to his question, surely school governors in our constituencies will find it difficult to assess whether or not an individual needs to be police checked and will therefore err on the side of caution. The lack of clarity—and perhaps the Minister's inability to answer that question—shows the scale of the problem.
