Proceeding contribution from Lord Lester of Herne Hill (Liberal Democrat) in the House of Lords on Monday, 25 January 2010. It occurred during Committee of the Whole House (HL) and Debate on bill on Equality Bill.
Equality Bill
Is the right reverend Prelate aware that Article 4(1) of the framework directive states specifically that the characteristic in question must constitute, ""a genuine and determining occupational requirement, provided that the objective is legitimate and the requirement is proportionate"?" What is wrong with putting that obligation expressly into the Bill so as to conform fully with European law?
