Proceeding contribution from Danny Alexander (Liberal Democrat) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 30 June 2010. It occurred during Ministerial statement on The Budget as it relates to Wales.

The Budget as it relates to Wales

I am grateful to my hon. Friend for that point. I will not comment on any trends in that direction, but sole traders and partnerships will benefit from the changes to employers’ national insurance contributions that were set out in the Budget. People who set up their own businesses, perhaps as sole traders or with a small number of employees, will also benefit from the policy that we have announced to free such businesses from paying national insurance contributions for their first 10 staff, up to £5,000, for the first year of their operation. That will hopefully encourage the establishment of more businesses in Wales, and will help those businesses to lead the economic recovery.
