Proceeding contribution from Albert Owen (Labour) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 30 June 2010. It occurred during Ministerial statement on The Budget as it relates to Wales.
The Budget as it relates to Wales
In the Budget, the Chancellor mentioned a fuel rebate for rural areas in Wales and elsewhere. That is something that I have campaigned for, and I know that the Chief Secretary’s party was campaigning for it before the election. Will he give us some idea of when that will come in, where the pilot schemes will be, and the kind of mechanism that the Government intend to introduce to help rural areas, which, even if they do have a fuel rebate, could see it wiped out by the VAT increase?
