Legislative Programme and Budget Statement (Wales)

I am grateful to the hon. Gentleman. He missed an opportunity to put that question directly to the Chief Secretary of the Treasury—he could have risen to his feet and put that question to the Treasury Minister. I am very conscious that a large number of people are reliant on the public sector in Wales. I have had several discussions, because we need to make sure that there is not a disproportionate impact. When we were freezing public sector pay, we protected the lowest paid public sector workers by saying that we would allow for those earning under £21,000 to have a £250 increase in each of the two years. As the Deputy Prime Minister said, we have to ensure that we look carefully at the Welsh economy to make sure that there is not a disproportionate downturn.
