Legislative Programme and Budget Statement (Wales)

The right hon. Gentleman is entirely right. It would be untenable to think of the National Assembly for Wales going down to 45 Members, with the work that it has to do. I assure him that we are looking carefully at the matter, and I reiterate the invitation that I made to the Member over there, if he would like to make contributions to the process. However, I think that the right hon. Gentleman would agree that not many people outside this place would argue for more and more highly paid politicians. We are looking at slimming down the state and making it more effective, and I think a large part of our electorate would welcome that.
