Legislative Programme and Budget Statement (Wales)

There are several things in the Queen’s Speech that are acceptable, and I want to look at the positive side. If my hon. Friend the Member for Carmarthen East and Dinefwr (Jonathan Edwards) is called, he will focus on the Budget, in which there is little to be positive about. I shall start with the parts of the Queen’s Speech with which I agree, but before doing so, I welcome all new Members to the first Welsh Grand Committee of this Session and you to the Chair, Mr Brady. I convey the apologies of my hon. Friend the Member for Arfon for his absence. He had surgery last night at Guy’s hospital, but I hope that he will be discharged later today. Several hon. Members were concerned about him, but I hope that he is on his way back.
