Proceeding contribution from Owen Smith (Labour) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 1 December 2010. It occurred during Grand Committee proceedings (HC) on Comprehensive Spending Review.
Comprehensive Spending Review
Perhaps I could explain the debt to GDP ratio issue for the hon. Gentleman. The point that my right hon. Friend the Member for Neath made was that when we came to power in 1997 the debt to GDP ratio was 42%, and by the time we left office it had gone up. However, at the end of 2008 it was down to 36%.
