Comprehensive Spending Review

With all due respect, the hon. Member for Swansea West should consider the impact of the Leader of the Opposition’s questioning of the Prime Minister this afternoon, and refrain from making such comments. It is important to point out that the report stated that growth was looking positive—the Office for Budget Responsibility’s statement was positive. Returning to the deficit, we must recognise that we cannot continue with a situation in which a Government propose to borrow £1 for every £4 that are spent. We are unable to carry on in that way, so the coalition is willing to take difficult decisions. Opposition Members are unwilling to tell us how they would perform the necessary changes.
