Comprehensive Spending Review
The most frustrating thing of all is the absolute failure of the former Government to accept any responsibility for anything that went wrong. This morning, I felt that I had arrived on a different planet, as though the past 13 years had never happened. I cannot believe, and no one has yet persuaded me, that the previous Government were a shining example of competence and honesty—they simply were not. The result in May surely reflected that; people lost faith and trust in that Government in exactly the same way as they did in the Conservative Government in 1997.
