Proceeding contribution from David Nuttall (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Friday, 21 January 2011. It occurred during Debate on bill on Estates of Deceased Persons (Forfeiture Rule and Law of Succession) Bill.

Estates of Deceased Persons (Forfeiture Rule and Law of Succession) Bill

I am extremely grateful to my hon. Friend for that intervention. The Bill would not be before the House had it not been for the original case. It raises the question how many other cases in solicitors' offices throughout the land have been determined on the back of that Court of Appeal case without ever going to court because the solicitors would say, ““We know what the law is because of the Court of Appeal ruling in that case.”” Many cases may have been dealt with in that way. It has now been 18 years since the murder, and 10 years since the judgment, which raises the question of how fast we have progressed with the matter.
