Proceeding contribution from John McDonnell (Labour) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 5 May 2011. It occurred during Adjournment debate and Backbench debate on General Debate.

General Debate

I am grateful to the Deputy Leader of the House for saying that he will set out the proposals and communicate them to the relevant Ministers in the Department for Transport and for the supportive way in which he has responded to my contribution. Securing Government policy in the long term is important, and I am sure that there is good will in government to do that. I hope that there will also be good will across the parties. Will he say to the Secretary of State for Transport and the appropriate Minister that it would be helpful if they could meet the Hillingdon Members as soon as possible to look at this programme, because it is a matter of continuing concern? Locally, we have been working on this matter on a cross-party basis. It was the pressure that coalition Members applied when they were in opposition that brought the BAA to the table for a proper dialogue, so an early meeting would be helpful.
