Proceeding contribution from Lord Freud (Conservative) in the House of Lords on Thursday, 13 October 2011. It occurred during Debate on bill and Committee proceeding on Welfare Reform Bill.
Welfare Reform Bill
Yes. That was another question that my noble friend asked. The effect of these changes come in with the universal credit. We are not proposing to get rid of the 16-hour rule for people in advance of them moving on to the universal credit; it will be part of that process. I hope that noble Lords will agree with me that this is a very positive move for families and that it will make a great improvement to the incentives to take work. In the light of the commitments that the Government have now made in this area, I urge my noble friend to withdraw his amendment.
