Proceeding contribution from Baroness Northover (Liberal Democrat) in the House of Lords on Wednesday, 16 November 2011. It occurred during Committee of the Whole House (HL) and Debate on bill on Health and Social Care Bill.
Health and Social Care Bill
I am sorry that the noble Lord feels that I did not adequately deal with that. The point I made is that moving public health to local authorities will join up a lot of the other factors—housing, the environment and so on—for which they have responsibilities. As the Marmot review highlighted, that should help to address some of those areas. It is also worth bearing in mind that the Equality Act introduced by the previous Government is relevant across all these areas and in terms of the groups with protected characteristics. Many of those who suffer from particularly bad health would be covered by that.
