Proceeding contribution from John McDonnell (Labour) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 1 March 2012. It occurred during Backbench debate and e-petition debate on CPI/RPI Pensions Uprating.
CPI/RPI Pensions Uprating
This is an important debate, but I apologise, Madam Deputy Speaker. The judges made their view very clear. The Government's motivation is to do with deficit reduction and cuts, not which inflation measure should be adopted. The Government are placing the burden of the cuts on pensioners. Pensioners will never forgive them for that. Question put. The House divided: Ayes 33, Noes 232.
