Public Sector: Employment

Question

To ask Mr Chancellor of the Exchequer, what assessment he has made of the effect of reductions in public sector spending on (a) employment rates and (b) household spending power in areas of the country where more than one-third of the workforce is employed in the public sector.

Answer

Analysis of the impact of spending reductions on the economy and forecasts of UK employment are carried out by the Office of Budget Responsibility. The Treasury also publishes analysis of the impact of policy decisions across the income distribution at fiscal events, and annual statistical information showing public expenditure by country, region and function.
