Recycling: EU Action

Question

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, what her policy is on the European Commission's decision not to proceed with the circular economy package.

Answer

The UK Government is committed to making better use of resources and minimising the environmental impact of waste, by sending less waste to landfill and increasing the recycling, reuse and prevention of waste.

The Commission has announced its intention to bring forward new proposals this year that will set out a more ambitious approach to developing the circular economy.

We look forward to working with the Commission, the European Parliament and other Member States to ensure a balanced package of proposals that is ambitious, evidence based and feasible for all Member States.
