Debts

Question

To ask Mr Chancellor of the Exchequer, what estimate he has made of the aggregate household debt in the UK on 8 May 2015.

Answer

According to the latest figures published by the Office for National Statistics, the UK's total household debt was £1,686 billion in the fourth quarter of 2014. As a proportion of household income, household debt has fallen from a peak of 169 per cent in the first quarter of 2008 to 146 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2014.
