To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, pursuant to the Answer of 17 October 2016 to Question 47716, whether his Department plans that no UK F35B Joint Strike Fighter aircraft will have undertaken testing for shipborne rolling vertical landing before tests begin aboard HMS Queen Elizabeth in 2018.

The shipborne rolling vertical landing (SRVL) manoeuvre is currently being trialled in an on-going programme of simulation testing. This testing will continue until the UK's first of class flying trials begin aboard HMS Queen Elizabeth, when SRVL will be trialled using UK F-35B aircraft.
