Energy: Prices

Question

To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, what discussions his Department has had with energy providers and companies on steps to control increases in the price of household energy.

Answer

Ministers and officials in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy meet energy providers and companies to discuss a wide range of issues.

We are disappointed by the announcements of some companies of price rises when customers on standard variable tariffs are already paying more than they need to.

We expect energy supply companies to treat all their customers fairly and have made it clear that the energy market should work in the best interests of households and businesses across the country.
