Written question asked by Ben Maguire (Liberal Democrat) on Tuesday, 7 July 2026, in the House of Commons. It was due for an answer on Thursday, 9 July 2026. It was answered by Hamish Falconer (Labour) on Wednesday, 15 July 2026 on behalf of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

Palestine: Detainees

Question

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, what recent assessment her Department has made of reports of the (a) torture, (b) mistreatment, and (c) denial of adequate medical care, of Palestinian detainees held in Israeli custody.

Answer

I am deeply concerned by the recent reports of Dr Abu Safiya's mistreatment whilst in Israeli custody. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has raised this case again with the Israeli Embassy in London and at senior levels across Israeli Government.

We have been consistently clear that all detainees must be treated with dignity and in full accordance with international law, and that any allegations of torture or mistreatment must be thoroughly investigated.
