Civil Servants: Career Development

Question

To ask the Minister for the Cabinet Office, with reference to the answer of 17 March 2026 to Question 118533 on Civil Servants: Career Development, whether internal practices on temporary promotions has been amended in light of the 2019 tribunal decision.

Answer

The Government remains committed to ensuring we attract, develop and retain talented people from a diverse range of backgrounds to help deliver on our priorities.

Decisions on the use of temporary recruitment remain delegated to departments, and no amendments have been made to guidance for internal practices on the use of temporary promotions.
