Question

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, Has the Foreign Secretary granted consent under the Mineral Ordnance 1994 in the last 6 months; and if so, on what date.

Answer

Falkland Islands Government is responsible for hydrocarbon development.

The UK Government does not comment on individual licence applications. Details of existing licences are publicly available on the Falkland Islands Government website.

The UK Government regularly engages with the Falkland Islands Government on a wide range of matters. The Foreign Secretary and I met Cheryl Roberts, Member of the Falkland Islands Legislative Assembly, on 1 October. I also met Jack Ford, Chair of the Falkland Islands Legislative Assembly, on 13 October following my statement to the House. As is the long-standing practice of successive Governments, we do not routinely provide a comprehensive list of official meetings, discussions or correspondence relating to specific policy matters.
