To ask the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change whether he has discussed including international aviation and shipping emissions in carbon budgets as recommended by the Committee on Climate Change with (a) the Chancellor of the Exchequer and (b) the Secretary of State for Transport.

The Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, the right hon. Member for Kingston and Surbiton (Mr Davey), has regular discussions with his Cabinet colleagues on a variety of issues, and will continue to engage closely with them before any decision is taken on this matter. Department of Energy and Climate Change officials are in regular contact with their opposite numbers in other Government Departments on this issue, as well as with the Committee on Climate Change, ahead of the statutory deadline set out at section 30 of the Climate Change Act (2008).
