We have serious concerns about Iran's support for militant groups in the middle east, including Hezbollah's military wing, Palestinian rejectionist groups such as Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) and Hamas, and Iraqi Shia militia groups. There is a significant body of international sanctions which target such activity, including UN prohibitions on the export of weapons by Iran, and EU and UN sanctions targeting leading members of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps.

That this House calls on the Government to do all it can to put pressure on the French Government to withdraw its invitation to Robert Mugabe to attend the Franco-African Summit in February; notes that France did not recognise the March 2002 presidential election in Zimbabwe as free and fair and that a meeting with Robert Mugabe would represent a backsliding from their previous position and grant him the recognition of legitimacy he longs for; and further notes that if the beleaguered Zimbabwean people are genuinely to be helped then the EU sanctions must be extended for another year.
