That this House applauds the views expressed in a statement on 5th December 1996 by the Lord Mayor of Coventry, Councillor Stan Hodson, in the furtherance of his efforts to promote peace and reconciliation, to the effect that all people of goodwill appreciate the enormous debt owed to Christ and Christianity in this world this last 2000 years and that for most people the world whether in schools, hospitals, universities, literature and music or in churches and indeed the instruments of state, would be unrecognisable without His influence, inspiration and wisdom.

That this House congratulates NASA and astronauts Steven Smith and Mark Lee on the successful completion of the second refurbishment mission for the Hubble Space Telescope during a seven hour space walk on 14th February; notes that the European Space Agency is a partner with NASA in the HST supplying the telescope's solar panel (built in Britain) and the faint object camera, and the sixteen major research proposals from United Kingdom astronomers have been accepted by the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore; recognises the United Kingdom strength in space science as demonstrated by our key involvement in major ESA projects which are already generating valuable information; and believes that while the prime objective of United Kingdom space plicy must be to encourage the development of a truly competitive space industry meeting user needs in fields such as satellite communications, navigation and Earth observation, achievements in space science are fundamental to understanding our environment and are a source of inspiration to young people to take up careers in science and technology on which the future of the nation depends.

That this House condemns the behaviour of Labour councillors on Doncaster Metroplitan Borough Council who have, according to the District Auditor, taken extravagant lunches, free trips and gifts from 'inappropriate sources'; notes that the District Auditor is reported as warning the Council at a recent meeting that he 'would be surprised if the amount of alcohol drunk at these lunches would allow those (Labour councillors) attending to stand up, let alone work'; finds that such behaviour is typical of New Labour which is contemptuous of the public and democratic accountability; fully supports Clare Gledhill, Conservative Prospective Parliamentary Candidate in Don Valley, in her campaign to stop the Labour junketing and corrupt practices; calls upon the Leader of the Opposition to condemn yet another corrupt section of his Party; demands that the Labour Party should cancel the selection of a Parliamentary candidate in Don Valley as a number of the prospective candidates are involved in the corrupt and drunken behaviour; and further requires that the Leader of the Opposition should apologise personally to the Doncaster Council taxpayers for the Labour Party's failures in Doncaster.

That this House condemns the continuing political support from the Conservative Party and its former Vice-Chair, the Right honourable Member for Chertsey and Walton, for the Albanian regime's leader, Sali Berisha, whose support for financially deregulated pyramid schemes has led to widespread financial ruin for Albanians; expresses concern that British diplomatic and trade support for the Shqiponja and VEFA holding company linked to Albania's ruling Democratic Party as well as for the Democratic Party itself may have led to violations of the Vienna Convention on the use of diplomatic bags as well as complicity in arms dealing with Rwanda and Afghanistan; calls for independent expert examination of artefacts thought to be from the National History Museum of Tirana given as gifts to the Prime Minister and other ministers by Sali Berisha in 1994; and urges the Westminster Conservative Association not to allow its address to be used by apologists for the Berisha regime.

That this House notes responsibility of the honourable Member for Hartlepool for the Labour Election Campaign HQ, and the Campaign HQ's responsibility for the failed attempt to rig the result of the BBC Today Programme "Personality of the Year" poll; understands his lack of confidence in the ability of the Leader of the Labour Party to win the poll on his own merit and his recognition of the need to rig the poll; observes his incompetence in failing to succeed in his campaign to rig the poll, or even to place his Leader amongst the qualifying six; condemns his employment of senior civil servants in a party political capacity despite Labour's untrue allegations of political misuse of civil servants by the Government; notes the betrayal of subordinates by disclaiming responsibility for their actions; doubts his control over the organisation, highlighted by his denial of any foreknowledge of the Audience Participation Unit's scheme; and considers that this catalogue of events in taking responsibility for a small organisation throws into doubt his suitability to head any Department of State.
