That this House congratulates Professor Kevin Warwick of Reading University on the success of the Cybernetics course which, at a time of falling applications for science subjects nationally and the closure of science departments, has seen a growth in applicants so that there are three hundred applications for one hundred places on the Cybernetics course despite the application grades having risen from Cs and Ds ten years ago to Bs now; welcomes the feed-through to the computer science and electronic engineering courses at the university which have also experienced increases of 11 per cent. and 16 per cent. respectively in the face of continued national drops in applications of between 10 and 25 per cent. in these subject areas; notes that every student on the four year course will leave having built a robot that will be able to move on command; and calls upon other scientists to learn from Professor Warwick how to teach subjects in a way that makes the subject interesting and relevant so that more students will want to develop a career in science.

That this House notes with dismay the increasing number of pedicabs or rickshaws on the streets of London; believes that pedicabs are deathtraps, since their construction and maintenance standards are unchecked and unregulated, and their riders often inexperienced about London's streets and traffic; notes that pedicab fares are unregulated and are up to five times more than London taxi prices; and believes that far from being a colourful addition to the streetscape in our capital pedicabs are a dangerous, expensive and third world transport mode unneeded in a world class city.

That this House supports vaccinating over 65s and at risk patients with flu vaccine; congratulates general practitioners represented by the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Local Medical Committee for the huge effort they make to organise flu clinics and maximise the number of people at risk who receive the vaccine; is disappointed that the drug company Chiron Evans failed to meet its first delivery date, thus forcing the reorganisation of the clinics, so that affected practices have had to rearrange their schedule three times and have still received no vaccine, and that other drug companies, seeing a gap in the market, then increased their prices leaving the affected practices suffering a double adverse effect; is concerned that Chiron Evans has failed to respond to either the national or medical press and has also not responded to a letter from the Local Medical Committee for Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire; and calls on Chiron Evans to recompense the affected practices appropriately in the interests of elderly and vulnerable patients.
