In training year 2015-2016, 14,562 trainees arrived at the Defence School of Transport (DST) to conduct training. During this period, the school offered 129 courses. The planned Babcock contract extension to cover the provision of equipment support at the DST is still being finalised. There are currently 683 civil service posts, and 177 military posts at the DST.

The intent to outsource the Equipment Support activity at the Defence School of Transport does not include the sale or transfer of Ministry of Defence real estate to Babcock. Babcock will operate from the existing workshop facility granted to them under licence for the duration of the contract.

The term 'HGV' (Heavy Goods Vehicle) is no longer used and has been replaced by 'LGV' (Large Goods Vehicle).
The training year runs from 31 March until 1 April.
As at 31 December 2015, a total of 1,057 military personnel had been trained as LGV drivers at the Defence School of Transport, Leconfield during this training year. The annual capacity for these courses is 1,303 personnel.
That this House notes that Leconfield's Defence School of Transport is the largest driver training facility in Europe; recognises that it is a centre of excellence and is an important local employer in Beverley and Holderness; further notes that British troops currently deployed in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere deserve the best possible training before they go into the field; further notes concern that the Government's Defence Training Rationalisation programme may prioritise financial savings ahead of the quality of training provided to UK forces and that this will affect the Leconfield Defence School; and urges the Government to allow an in-house bid for the defence training contract at Leconfield.
