ENERGY EFFICIENCY WEEK (No.3)

That this House congratulates the Energy Saving Trust on launching its sixth Energy Efficiency Week; affirms that energy efficiency should be a crucial part of the United Kingdom's future energy policy; welcomes the Performance and Innovation Unit's recommendation to the Government that the UK achieve a step-change in household energy efficiency, with improvements of 20 per cent. by 2010 and a further 20 per cent. by 2020; calls on the Government to enshrine these targets in the forthcoming Energy White Paper; notes that these targets will be integral to the UK meeting and bettering its Kyoto targets; further notes that the Prime Minister signalled the need for a 60 per cent. reduction in CO2 by 2050 at the Johannesburg Summit to reduce climate change to manageable levels; and further notes that the energy efficiency, in addition to the environmental benefits, also helps combat fuel poverty and reduces bills for consumers.
