Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Barry Gardiner (Labour), on Wednesday, 8 January 2003, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 111 members in total.
NESTLE
That this House condemns the legal proceedings currently being taken by Nestle against the Ethiopian Government to claim $6 million of compensation; notes that governments around the world are cooperating to relieve heavily indebted poor countries of debt; considers it inappropriate that multi-national companies should now seek damages from countries in the midst of a humanitarian crisis; and calls upon Nestle to cease its legal action against the Ethiopian Government and to help the Ethiopian Government, along with other international partners, to deal with the humanitarian crisis in Ethiopia.
