Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Lord Watson of Wyre Forest (Labour), on Thursday, 23 January 2003, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 54 members in total.
LABOUR STUDENTS' CAMPAIGN ON THE DEVELOPING WORLD
That this House welcomes the Labour students campaign, 'Justice for the developing world'; notes that the UK Government has taken a leading role internationally in reducing the burden of debt on some of the world's poorest countries, including Uganda, Bolivia, Mozambique and Tanzania and that by 2005-06 overseas aid spending will have grown to ??4.9 billion a year; recognises that thousands of students in universities and colleges across the country have already signed up to the campaign's aims; and supports their calls for fair trade reforms, faster debt relief for the developing world, a commitment by the Government to reach the UN target of spending 0.7 per cent. of national income on aid spending in the next Parliament, and a $100 billion a year global fund to reach the Millennium Development Goals by 2015.
