Taxation: Aviation

Question
To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) what modelling his Department has undertaken to assess the likely effect of the proposed introduction of aviation duty on the economic viability of the aviation industry;
Answer

A formal consultation on aviation duty was published on 31 January 2008 and closed on 24 April 2008. 170 consultation responses were received and these have been considered in developing the policy.The Government are modelling overall impacts of the tax on the whole economy, including airports and the aviation industry. The details of the duty have not yet been set. The Chancellor plans to make an announcement in the autumn.
