Aviation: Air Quality

Question: To ask Her Majesty’s Government what were the levels of the tricresyl phosphate isomer known as mono-ortho-cresyl phosphate detected in aircraft cabins by the recent Cranfield University research study into cabin air quality; and what technology was used to monitor for this specific isomer.

Answer: I refer the noble Countess to the Written Statement made on 10 May 2011 (Official Report, col. WS 37). The information available has been published in the Cranfield University report. The next step is for the research studies, which the Department for Transport has commissioned, to be referred to the Committee on Toxicity. This will be done once the final study—swab test research—has been completed by the Institute of Occupational Medicine in Edinburgh.
