Written question asked by Countess of Mar (Crossbench), in the House of Lords. It was answered by Earl Attlee (Conservative) on Tuesday, 7 June 2011.

Aviation: Air Quality

Question
To ask Her Majesty’s Government which government body or individual is responsible for informing aircraft passengers when a contaminated air event may have or has occurred.
Answer

I refer the noble Countess to the Written Statement made on 10 May 2011 (Official Report, col. WS 37). The information available has been published in the Cranfield University report. The next step is for the research studies, which the Department for Transport has commissioned, to be referred to the Committee on Toxicity. This will be done once the final study—swab test research—has been completed by the Institute of Occupational Medicine in Edinburgh.
