Aviation: Air Quality

Question: To ask Her Majesty’s Government what assessment the Committee on Toxicity have made of the effects of inhalation of tricresyl phosphate (TCP) on human blood proteins; and whether any scientific studies have shown reproductive system changes as a result of exposure to TCP.

Answer: I refer the noble Countess to the Written Statement made on 10 May 2011 (Official Report, col. WS 37). The information available has been published in the Cranfield University report. The next step is for the research studies, which the Department for Transport has commissioned, to be referred to the Committee on Toxicity. This will be done once the final study—swab test research—has been completed by the Institute of Occupational Medicine in Edinburgh.
