Question: To ask the President of the Board of Trade when the recent legislation concerning the arbitration of employment cases will come into force.

Answer: Ms Kelly: To ask the President of the Board of Trade when the recent legislation concerning the arbitration of employment cases will come into force. [52632] Mr. Ian McCartney: Provision for the Advisory Conciliation and Arbitration Service (ACAS) to provide, fund, and promote a scheme for the arbitration of unfair dismissal disputes, subject to the approval of the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, is included in the Employment Rights (Dispute Resolution) Act 1998. This provision will come into force on 1 August 1998. The scheme, which will be the subject of consultation, is not expected to begin operation until after April 1999.
