Answer

Mr. Sheerman: To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what plans he has to change the recovery targets under the packaging waste regulations for 1999. [65266] Mr. Meacher: Proposals for changing the recovery targets were included in the recent consultation paper, the Review Of The Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging Waste) Regulations 1997, published on 30 July 1998. I have had further advice from the Advisory Committee on Packaging, on this and on other issues covered in the review, as set out in Sir Peter Parker's letter to me on 22 December 1998, copies of which I am placing in the Library.
