Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, in what year the UK was last awarded the World Rowing Championships; and if she will make a statement.

Answer: Mr. Hawkins: To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport in what year the UK was last awarded the World Rowing Championships; and if she will make a statement. [160889] Mr. Caborn: The World Rowing Championships were last held in the UK in 1986 when Nottingham was the host city. The Government are pleased that the UK has been awarded the 2006 Championships and hopes that all interested parties will continue to work together in preparation for this event to ensure that it is an unqualified success.
