Proceeding contribution from Baroness Byford (Conservative) in the House of Lords on Tuesday, 28 February 2006. It occurred during Committee of the Whole House (HL) and Debate on bill on Natural Environment and Rural Communities Bill.

Natural Environment and Rural Communities Bill

Before the noble Baroness responds I ask the Minister, who has said that there will be stricter rules and guidance for the RDAs, whether he would ensure that, within that framework, the rural side of their responsibilities will be reinforced. I think there is a great need for it. The Minister comes from the East Midlands, where he will know that there are such big conurbations as Derby, Nottingham and Northampton. It would be very easy for little Lincolnshire and some of the rural areas to lose out if we are not careful.
