Proceeding contribution from Baroness Ashton of Upholland (Labour) in the House of Lords on Thursday, 23 March 2006. It occurred during Debate on bill and Committee proceeding on Electoral Administration Bill.
Electoral Administration Bill
No, I would much rather my noble friend pressed the matter. Then it is absolutely clear in Hansard, and we do not necessarily need to return to it at a later stage. We think we have the balance right between wanting people to take this issue seriously, using methods that we would traditionally use, such as naming and shaming, and allowing the Electoral Commission to do their job. We think we have responded to the commission’s recommendation appropriately.
