Proceeding contribution from Andrew Turner (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Monday, 26 June 2006. It occurred during Debate on bill on Charities Bill.

Charities Bill

I shall return to the issue of the 19th-century philanthropic view of charities, but of course I agree with my right hon. Friend the Leader of the Opposition. Although it is important that charities are effectively regulated to protect the charity brand and to ensure that donations are properly used in pursuance of a charity’s objectives, we should not, by over-regulation, drive out individuals who have an appetite to help their fellow man but do not desire to become bogged down in bureaucracy.
