Proceeding contribution from Baroness Noakes (Conservative) in the House of Lords on Monday, 4 December 2006. It occurred during Debates on delegated legislation on Compensation Act 2006 (Contribution for Mesothelioma Claims) Regulations 2006.
Compensation Act 2006 (Contribution for Mesothelioma Claims) Regulations 2006
My Lords, perhaps I may clarify the point that I was trying to make. I understand that, in reversing the House of Lords decision, the Government consider that they are putting themselves back inthe same position. But these regulations enable the Government to go into the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. That is paid for by the industry and the Government do not pay anything into it. So we are creating a right for the Government to go into the scheme, and I was merely trying to ascertain how much it is worth to the Government to take the industry’s money.
