Proceeding contribution from Baroness Thomas of Winchester (Liberal Democrat) in the House of Lords on Tuesday, 20 February 2007. It occurred during Debate on bill and Committee proceeding on Welfare Reform Bill.
Welfare Reform Bill
I thank all noble Lords who have spoken on this amendment. I never realised it would give rise to such a wide debate as it has. I think this will become very important in the future because of the new duty that I mentioned, which of course is part of the new Disability Discrimination Act. As Pathways is rolled out over the country, I think people will be very concerned, if they offer help in the way that I suggested, if nothing is done. I was not clear whether the Government were prepared to look at this again. I wonder if I could ask for an assurance whether they might be prepared to have a look at this before the next stage of the Bill, otherwise we will have to come back to it, having examined what the Minister has said. In the mean time I beg leave to withdraw the amendment. Amendment, by leave, withdrawn. Schedule 1 [Employment and support allowance: additional conditions]:
