Proceeding contribution from Bill Wiggin (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 6 December 2007. It occurred during Debate on Fisheries.

Fisheries

I pay tribute to the brave fishermen who have lost their lives in the past 12 months. We should always remember that fishing is a dangerous occupation; sadly, fishing families and communities suffer terrible tragedies. I also pay tribute to Fishermen's Mission, whose badge I am wearing—that unique charity, founded in 1881, deserves our thanks. I welcome the Minister to his new role. We all know about the importance of science in fisheries, but in the next five years the Government will cut the minimum budget for the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science from £30.9 million in 2008-09 to £28.8 million in 2012-13.
