Proceeding contribution from Lord Skelmersdale (Conservative) in the House of Lords on Thursday, 31 January 2008. It occurred during Debate on bill and Committee proceeding on Child Maintenance and Other Payments Bill.

Child Maintenance and Other Payments Bill

I am very glad that we have had this debate. I certainly agree that there has been no dedicated service on information and support up to now, which has been a great weakness. I more than agree that it is important: it is absolutely vital. I cannot see the whole scheme of voluntary arrangements working without a properly organised and competent information and support service. However, I am afraid that I got a little confused when the Minister was speaking. I do not know whether he has in front of him the letter to which he and I referred; I am afraid that I do not. In that letter, he referred to Ventura providing face-to-face facilities, as far as I can remember. If I am wrong, I apologise, and I am sure that we will have discussions later.
