Proceeding contribution from Stephen O'Brien (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Monday, 30 June 2008. It occurred during Opposition day on Food Security.

Food Security

I am listening to my hon. Friend's excellent speech, which is putting our domestic production in context and dealing with the problems faced not least by dairy farmers in my constituency. Does he agree that whenever this country has most needed to be competitive and to look to its strengths, it has recognised that food production is a strategic industry, which makes it worth investing in to ensure that we remain competitive as well as to contribute to a degree of sufficiency in our own land?
