Proceeding contribution from David Winnick (Labour) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 16 October 2008. It occurred during Ministerial statement on Department of Energy and Climate Change.

Department of Energy and Climate Change

I think that there is a difference—at least, I hope so. I welcome my right hon. Friend's statement, but will he accept that there is bound to be anxiety up and down the country at the increase of some 35 per cent. to 40 per cent. that is being implemented in domestic prices? Would it not be useful if, when he met the energy companies, he would be a little tougher and make it clear to them that those increases should be cancelled? If not, why not a windfall tax?
