Proceeding contribution from Lord Adonis (Labour) in the House of Lords on Thursday, 20 November 2008. It occurred during Debate on Railways.

Railways

My Lords, the Oyster card system will be extended at the end of next year to cover commuter services from south London. Therefore, there will be a single Oyster card system covering all metro lines, including Underground and overground lines south of the Thames. The Mayor of London and I are working closely on this. Discussions are taking place with the relevant train operating companies to ensure that the introduction is smooth and that their commercial interests are adequately catered for. This will reduce the number of tickets that need to be bought at stations and will contribute to a better service for passengers at stations.
