Proceeding contribution from Ed Miliband (Labour) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 28 January 2009. It occurred during Opposition day on Heathrow (Third Runway).
Heathrow (Third Runway)
The hon. Member for Windsor (Adam Afriyie) is speaking from a sedentary position, but in this debate he asked whether the forecasts took account of the recession and the current economic situation. I shall tell him: yes, they do. The forecasts show that passenger movements are due to rise from 210 million to 430 million. The question that we face is whether we should just try to turn off or wish away that increase in passenger numbers, with all the implications that that would have for Britain's economy and society.
