Proceeding contribution from Earl Cathcart (Conservative) in the House of Lords on Monday, 16 March 2009. It occurred during Committee of the Whole House (HL) and Debate on bill on Marine and Coastal Access Bill [HL].

Marine and Coastal Access Bill [HL]

This issue is one where the competing interests about which we have spoken so much have come to the fore. I hope that the Minister will be able to clarify what they or the Crown Estate would do following the judgment. On a wider note, the situation is an example of how the inconsistency between different bodies in the same sectors can hinder or be perceived to hinder sustainable development. Will the Minister explain what Defra or the related government public bodies are doing to inform the Crown Estate of wider government policy or local issues?
